God always prophesies and those of us who are like God i.e. Christlike, will also always prophesy.
7 Surely the Lord God does nothing,
Unless He reveals His secret to His servants the prophets.
8 A lion has roared!
Who will not fear?
The Lord God has spoken!
Who can but prophesy?
” (Amos 3:7–8, NKJV)
Why is the testimony of Jesus the spirit of prophecy?
God has nothing to say except His Word and Jesus Christ is God’s Word.
10 And I fell at his feet to worship him. But he said to me, “See that you do not do that! I am your fellow servant, and of your brethren who have the testimony of Jesus. Worship God! For the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy.”
” (Revelation 19:10, NKJV)
Prophesying and Preaching
Prophesying is not teaching or preaching. Teaching and preaching originates in the “born-again” mind, inspired by the Spirit but originates in the mind.
Prophesying is akin to speaking in tongues, were the understanding is unfruitful unless interpretation occurs. It is Spirit to spirit.
Prophecy and Tongues
Pursue love, and desire spiritual gifts, but especially that you may prophesy. 2 For he who speaks in a tongue does not speak to men but to God, for no one understands him; however, in the spirit he speaks mysteries. 3 But he who prophesies speaks edification and exhortation and comfort to men. 4 He who speaks in a tongue edifies himself, but he who prophesies edifies the church. 5 I wish you all spoke with tongues, but even more that you prophesied; for he who prophesies is greater than he who speaks with tongues, unless indeed he interprets, that the church may receive edification. ” (1 Corinthians 14:1–5, NKJV)
People who prophesy are simply called prophets, it’s not necessarily a specialized office
27 If anyone speaks in a tongue, let there be two or at the most three, each in turn, and let one interpret. 28 But if there is no interpreter, let him keep silent in church, and let him speak to himself and to God. 29 Let two or three prophets speak, and let the others judge. 30 But if anything is revealed to another who sits by, let the first keep silent. 31 For you can all prophesy one by one, that all may learn and all may be encouraged. 32 And the spirits of the prophets are subject to the prophets. 33 For God is not the author of confusion but of peace, as in all the churches of the saints. ” (1 Corinthians 14:27–33, NKJV)
Even Moses wanted everybody to prophesy and have the Spirit
29 Then Moses said to him, “Are you zealous for my sake? Oh, that all the Lord’s people were prophets and that the Lord would put His Spirit upon them!” 30 And Moses returned to the camp, he and the elders of Israel. ” (Numbers 11:29–30, NKJV)
