The New Testament Standard is clear

The Biblical standard of salvation is higher than we were taught thus far.

4 Whoever commits sin also commits lawlessness, and sin is lawlessness. 5 And you know that He was manifested to take away our sins, and in Him there is no sin. 6 Whoever abides in Him does not sin. Whoever sins has neither seen Him nor known Him.7 Little children, let no one deceive you. He who practices righteousness is righteous, just as He is righteous. 8 He who sins is of the devil, for the devil has sinned from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that He might destroy the works of the devil. 9 Whoever has been born of God does not sin, for His seed remains in him; and he cannot sin, because he has been born of God.

From the above definition we all panic and realize we are not yet fully saved.

Salvation is a process and we are not all equally successful.

Growth in Christ can actually be counted. Calculated. It’s not just based on good intentions and then some vague form of Christian living.

18 “Therefore hear the parable of the sower: 19 When anyone hears the word of the kingdom, and does not understand it, then the wicked one comes and snatches away what was sown in his heart. This is he who received seed by the wayside. 20 But he who received the seed on stony places, this is he who hears the word and immediately receives it with joy; 21 yet he has no root in himself, but endures only for a while. For when tribulation or persecution arises because of the word, immediately he stumbles. 22 Now he who received seed among the thorns is he who hears the word, and the cares of this world and the deceitfulness of riches choke the word, and he becomes unfruitful. 23 But he who received seed on the good ground is he who hears the word and understands it, who indeed bears fruit and produces: some a hundredfold, some sixty, some thirty.”

The human desire to offer guarantees, regardless of bad performance is a trap.

There are some aspects of salvation that have been done and are recorded as past tense, there are some aspects of salvation are present continuous and many that are recorded as future.

Meditate on these scriptures and beseech the Holy Spirit to keep you. Endeavor to abide in Him, and dwell and be led by the Spirit.

Past salvation (have been saved)

even when we were dead in trespasses, made us alive together with Christ (by grace you have been saved),
Ephesians 2:5

For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God,
Ephesians 2:8

who has saved us and called us with a holy calling, not according to our works, but according to His own purpose and grace which was given to us in Christ Jesus before time began,
2 Timothy 1:9

not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to His mercy He saved us, through the washing of regeneration and renewing of the Holy Spirit,
Titus 3:5

Present salvation (being saved)

For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.
1 Corinthians 1:18

For we are to God the fragrance of Christ among those who are being saved and among those who are perishing.
2 Corinthians 2:15

There is also an antitype which now saves us—baptism (not the removal of the filth of the flesh, but the answer of a good conscience toward God), through the resurrection of Jesus Christ,
1 Peter 3:21

Therefore lay aside all filthiness and overflow of wickedness, and receive with meekness the implanted word, which is able to save your souls.
James 1:21

Future Salvation

“And you will be hated by all for My name’s sake. But he who ENDURES TO THE END will be saved.
Matthew 10:22

“And you will be hated by all for My name’s sake. But he who ENDURES TO THE END shall be saved.
Mark 13:13

Much more then, having now been justified by His blood, we shall be saved from wrath through Him.10. For if when we were enemies we were reconciled to God through the death of His Son, much more, having been reconciled, we shall be saved by His life.
Romans 5:9-10

If anyone’s work is burned, he will suffer loss; but he himself will be saved, yet so as through fire.
1 Corinthians 3:15

Take heed to yourself and to the doctrine. Continue in them, for in doing this you will save both yourself and those who hear you.
1 Timothy 4:16

There are many warnings to continue in the path of salvation until it is completed

Having been saved but later destroyed (by God Himself)

But I want to remind you, though you once knew this, that the Lord, having saved the people out of the land of Egypt, afterward destroyed those who did not believe.
Jude 5

IFF you continue

in the body of His flesh through death, to present you holy, and blameless, and above reproach in His sight—23. if indeed you continue in the faith, grounded and steadfast, and are not moved away from the hope of the gospel which you heard, which was preached to every creature under heaven, of which I, Paul, became a minister.
Colossians 1:22-23

Baptized into Christ yet later killed as an example to us

Moreover, brethren, I do not want you to be unaware that all our fathers were under the cloud, all passed through the sea,2. all were baptized into Moses in the cloud and in the sea,3. all ate the same spiritual food,4. and all drank the same spiritual drink. For they drank of that spiritual Rock that followed them, and that Rock was Christ.5. But with most of them God was not well pleased, for their bodies were scattered in the wilderness.6. Now these things became our examples, to the intent that we should not lust after evil things as they also lusted.7. And do not become idolaters as were some of them. As it is written, “The people sat down to eat and drink, and rose up to play.”8. Nor let us commit sexual immorality, as some of them did, and in one day twenty-three thousand fell;9. nor let us tempt Christ, as some of them also tempted, and were destroyed by serpents;10. nor complain, as some of them also complained, and were destroyed by the destroyer.11. Therefore let him who thinks he stands take heed lest he fall.

Branches IN CHRIST taken away due to not bearing fruit

“Every branch in Me that does not bear fruit He takes away; and every branch that bears fruit He prunes, that it may bear more fruit.
John 15:2

Not abiding leads to being burned

“If anyone does not abide in Me, he is cast out as a branch and is withered; and they gather them and throw them into the fire, and they are burned.
John 15:6

Having become partakers yet fallen away

For it is impossible for those who were once enlightened, and have tasted the heavenly gift, and have become partakers of the Holy Spirit,5. and have tasted the good word of God and the powers of the age to come,6. if they fall away, to renew them again to repentance, since they crucify again for themselves the Son of God, and put Him to an open shame.7. For the earth which drinks in the rain that often comes upon it, and bears herbs useful for those by whom it is cultivated, receives blessing from God;8. but if it bears thorns and briars, it is rejected and near to being cursed, whose end is to be burned.
Hebrews 6:4-8

We need endurance

Therefore do not cast away your confidence, which has great reward.36. For you have need of endurance, so that after you have done the will of God, you may receive the promise:

“For yet a little while,
And He who is coming will come and will not tarry.
Now the just shall live by faith;
But if anyone draws back,
My soul has no pleasure in him.”
But we are not of those who draw back to perdition, but of those who believe to the saving of the soul.
Hebrews 10:35-39

Endure, do not deny, be faithful

This is a faithful saying: For if we died with Him, We shall also live with Him.
12. If we endure, We shall also reign with Him. If we deny Him, He also will deny us.
13. If we are faithless, He remains faithful; He cannot deny Himself.
2 Timothy 2:11-13

There is Hope and Help

3 I thank my God upon every remembrance of you, 4 always in every prayer of mine making request for you all with joy, 5 for your fellowship in the gospel from the first day until now, 6 being confident of this very thing, that He who has begun a good work in you will complete it until the day of Jesus Christ;

Now to Him who is able to keep you from stumbling, And to present you faultless
Before the presence of His glory with exceeding joy, 25. To God our Savior,
Who alone is wise,
Be glory and majesty,
