To study, meditate upon, repent and receive the Blessing.

As always there is the overarching concept of blessing and blessedness but then there is also extremely detailed covenant-specific blessing and curse.

We will deal in more detail below with the common misunderstanding by Christians that the blessing is an Old Testament style prosperity. There are 6 Covenants applicable to the Christian and it’s a mistake to clump five of them under one name “Old Testament”

This leads to misunderstanding thus disobedience and failure. A curse if you can bear that.

The Curse

A Curse is not some voodoo power that keeps bringing disaster and failure. For example, a family has a legacy where the father doesn’t work and leaves when the children are young. The son witnesses this and suffers under it. There is plenty type A trauma imparted to the son. The son now does monkey see monkey do and so the relational, financial, academic disaster perpetuates to the next generation. This is then repeated for five generations.

  • Is it a curse? Yes!
  • Is it demonic or “spiritual”? Not exclusively or necessarily.

There is a consequence or sanction to the sin and it is bad. A vector down.

The Mosaic Covenant

The Mosaic Covenant was a prosperity covenant and it was essentially earthbound. Moses does not primarily promise the Israelites heaven not threaten them with hell. Everything contained in The Mosaic Covenant essentially happens on earth and particularly in the promised land to the Israelites.

Jesus is the one who ups the ante and kicks the can into eternity and into the Spirit. Everything we know about hell comes from Jesus. Now clearly the great and ultimate blessing for Christians is in Christ, yet most Christians do not understand that the blessing is spiritual, in heavenly places, and eternal. It does have some significant effect on the earth and our earthly existence but that is fruit, a short-term by-product as it were while the main purpose remains the journey to Heaven.
