Emotional Maturity is the skill to allow and to identify the big six upsetting emotions without trying to deny them.  These emotions are, sadness, fear, shame, anger, disgust, and despair.

This is typically more difficult for men than for women and especially in areas of trauma. We all suffer trauma to some extent and need to be intelligent about that.

Type A and Type B trauma must be identified and addressed through various skills development programs. Click below for links.

Mature Response

You cannot react or even respond to each emotion and sometimes it gets complex with confusing situations and many emotions running.

Remain calm. This is often done by allowing sadness and shame in. Then pray and ask the Holy Spirit what the truth of the matter is, which emotions are the appropriate ones.

Allow the incorrect emotions but start soothing them out with truth and joy.

Plan the correct response and actions based on feeling the correct emotions, holding the correct perception of the truth, under the guidance of the Holy Spirit.

In relational situations only act when joy and cam has been restored.

Triggers & Tripwires

A craving lasts only six minutes. If you endure temptation for that time you will have overcome. If you do this regularly you begin to rewire your brain into patience deliberation and self-control. When emotions, conflicting and confusing and inconvenient flood your heart then stay calm, allow sadness in and hold your peace.
