The Gifts of the Father (Redemptive Gifts)

Teaching by Arthur Burk

Introduction

This teaching is on the Spiritual gifts that is found in Romans 12.

Some of the things that I share, will come as analogy with types and shadows within Scriptures.

Some things that I will share, cannot, or I have not yet found the documentation of it in Scripture. I share them as a matter of observation.

I would encourage those of you to ponder John 5 :36-37 and  also John 10: 25-38. In both of these areas Jesus gave a defence of His Ministry. He said that everything needed to be supported through the mouth of two witnesses.  He gave the two witnesses. In one case, the witnesses were the Work of the Father and His Words, and the other case, His Words and His Work. He presented His Works as the tangible outworking of what He did as evidence in support of validation for the fact that these things were of God. We embrace both sides, not one or the other, not pointing to works without any biblical support. neither do I reject the visible manifestation of the Spirit in those areas where I cannot fully find biblical teaching.

As we go through, we will have a solid foundation of Scripture with analogy types and shadows and secondarily observation how this plays out in the body of Christ.]

Different kinds of Biblical Gifts

To begin with, we go to a separation of the three different kinds of gifts:

1 Corinthians 12:4-6

4 Now there are diversities of gifts, but the same Spirit.

5 And there are differences of administrations, but the same Lord.

6 And there are diversities of operations, but it is the same God which worketh all in all.

(Gifts – G5486 – charisma – (a (divine) gratuity, (specifically) a (spiritual) endowment, that is, (subjectively) religious qualification, or (objectively) miraculous faculty: – (free) gift.)

(Administrations – G1248 – diakonia – attendance (as a servant, etc.); figuratively, (official) service; minister (-ing, -tration, -try), office, relief, service)

(Operations – G1755 – energema – an effect: – operation, working.)

And from that background we see Romans 12:6-8 that is one list of gifts as distinct – Redemptive Gifts.

there is a second set of gifts in 1 Corinthians 12 and 14 that we call the Manifestation Gifts.

there is another set, another list in Ephesians 4 that are offices in the church. The apostle, Prophet, evangelist, pastor, Teacher – the five fold offices in the church. These are offices, not gifts – Office Gifts

Redemptive Gifts

Everybody has one of the seven [redemptive] gifts, that is listed in Romans 12.

We receive those at conception, not at salvation and they define our entire soul, our personality, or outlook – the way we see ministry.

Psychologists have been observing these traits for millennia and over the last 150 years have scientifically documented much of it.

Personality traits tests like the DISC test, Meyer Briggs, or various others have become popular and are available online.  This is simply the scientific observation of God’s creation.

The Seven Redemptive Gifts

The 7 gifts in Romans 12, the language varies from translation to translation. So very simply for the sake of uniformity, the language that I use, is as follows – in the order is as always important:

  • Gift of Prophet
  • Gift of Servant
  • Gift of Teacher
  • Gift of Exhorter
  • Gift of Giver
  • Gift of Ruler
  • Gift of Mercy

Please note, there is a distinct difference between the office gift of Prophet, Redemptive gift of Prophet in Romans 12 and the Manifestation gift of prophesying that is listed in 1 Corinthians.

Understand that any one of the seven redemptive gifts can have the manifestation gift of prophesying, and the seven redemptive gifts transcend the Old and New Testament.

Examples

Isaiah:

  • had the redemptive gift of Teacher
  • manifestation gift of prophesying
  • walk in the office of Prophet;

Jeremiah:

  • had the redemptive gift of Exhortation
  • manifestation gift of prophesying
  • walk in the office of Prophet

Ezekiel:

  • had redemptive gift of Prophet
  • manifestation of prophesying
  • walk in the office of Prophet,

John the Apostle:

  • had the redemptive gift of Mercy
  • manifestation gift of prophesying [Book of Revelation]
  • and he walked in the office of Apostle,

It is clear that the manifestation gift of prophesying is completely different, distinct, separate from the redemptive gift of Prophet.
